Tuesday 21st March 2023

Summary

New Zealand has experienced a significant increase in isolation of S.Typhi (n=12).

Seven cases report overseas travel. A cluster of four cases of phage type E1a from South Auckland is being extensively investigated with the DNA profiles being compared with isolates from the Pacific region. Investigations are continuing on the remaining case, which has possible links to three February cases.
