Wednesday 22nd March 2023

Summary

The number of isolates (n=146) showed a decrease in comparison with February 2008 (n = 162). The ongoing outbreak of S. Typhimurium phage type 1 resulted in a further 23 isolates being confirmed this month (5 in February 2008). Molecular typing of the isolate identified two separate outbreaks of S. Typhimurium phage type 1: one centered in Auckland and the second one in the Gisborne area. Uncommon New Zealand serotypes identified this month included S. Kiambu (2 human isolates since 2002) and Indiana (3 human isolates since 2002).
