Summary

The number of isolates (n=90) showed a decrease in comparison with April
2008 (n = 123). Salmonella
Typhimurium phage type 160 (9 in April 2009, 8 in April 2008) was the
predominant serotype this month. Uncommon New Zealand
serotypes identified this month included S. Singapore (6 human isolates since 2002) and S. Enteritidis phage type
7 (2 human isolates since 2002).The
first human isolate of S. Ferruch was isolated this month in the Auckland health district;
no travel history provided.
