Human Salmonella Isolates, 2009 No. 9, September

Summary

The number of isolates (n = 83) received this month showed a decrease in comparison to the numbers received in September 2008 (n = 94). Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 160 accounted for 6% of total serotypes in contrast to 21% in September 2008. Uncommon New Zealand serotypes identified this month included S. Cerro (1 human isolate since 2002), S. Isangi (2 human isolates since 2002) and S. Taksony (3 human isolates since 2002). Salmonella Enteritidis phage type RDNC-Aug 09 was confirmed in the following Health Districts: WK (1), OT (1), household contact in Southland (2).
