Summary

The number of isolates (n = 80) received this month showed a decrease in comparison to the numbers received in December 2008 (n = 112). The predominant serotype this month is Salmonella Infantis which accounted for 15% of the isolates in contrast to 2.5% in December 2008. Uncommon New Zealand serotype identified this month included S. Muenchen (6 human isolates since 2002) and Salmonella Kisangani was isolated from a human case for the first time in New Zealand.
