Summary

The number of isolates (n=86) showed an increase in comparison with May 2009 (n = 81). Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 160 (10 in May 2010, 5 in May 2009) was the predominant serotype this month. Uncommon New Zealand serotypes identified this month included S. Typhimurium phage type 67 (12 human isolates since 1990) and S. Muenster (5 human cases since 1990 , the last seen in 1999 ). The current case had recently travelled to North America.
