Human Salmonella Isolates, 2011 No. 8, August

Summary

The number of isolates (n=84) showed a decrease in comparison with August 2010 (n=96). Salmonella Typhimurium phage type RDNC-May06 (14.5% in August 2010 and 10.5% in 2011) was the predominant serotype. Uncommon New Zealand serotypes identified this month included S. Typhimurium phage type 199 (5 human isolates since 2002) and S. Muenchen (8 human isolates since 2002). Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 30 was isolated for the first time in New Zealand (no travel history).
