Human Salmonella Isolates, 2012 No. 9, September

Summary

The number of isolates (n=95) showed an increase in comparison with September 2011 (n = 74). Salmonella Typhimurium phage type RDNC-May 06 ( 9.5% in September 2011 and 2012) remained the predominant serotype. Uncommon Salmonella serotypes confirmed this month included: S. Kedougou (7 human isolates confirmed since 1988), S. Typhimurium phage type 7 (only 2 human isolates since 1988), and S. Wandsworth (4 human isolates confirmed since 1988). An increase in Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 135 was noticed this month in the Otago-Southland region (0 cases on September 2011, 7 cases in September 2012).
