Human Salmonella Isolates, 2013 No. 6, June

Summary

The number of isolates this month (n=54) showed a slight increase in comparison with June 2012 (n = 51). Salmonella Typhimurium phage type RDNC-May06 (7.8% in June 2012 and 11.1% in June 2013) was the predominant serotype. Uncommon Salmonella serotypes confirmed this month included S. Ruiru (8 human isolates confirmed since 1996), S. Kedougou (8 human isolates since 1996), and S.  Typhimurium phage type 179 (2 human isolates confirmed since 1996).

S. Paratyphi A
Four cases of S. Paratyphi A were confirmed by ERL;  these cases were linked to the cluster of enteric diseases in Auckland school children returning from Asia – (Source: ARPHS).
