Human Salmonella Isolates, 2014 No. 11, November

Summary
The number of isolates (n=68) confirmed this month showed a decrease in comparison with November 2013 (n = 100). Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 56 variant (10.0% in November 2013, 10.3% in November 2014) was the predominant serotype confirmed this month. Uncommon Salmonella serotypes confirmed this month included: S. Kisangani (with only 1 human isolate confirmed since 2009 when it was first reported) and S. Papuana (23 human isolates since 1990 when it was first confirmed in New Zealand).
A household cluster (3 cases) of Salmonella Stanley was confirmed this month in the Hawkes Bay region.
