Human Salmonella Isolates, 2016 No. 9, September

The number of isolates (n=98) confirmed this month showed a decrease in comparison to the number of isolates confirmed in September 2015 (n=109). Salmonella Brandenburg (8.3% in September 2015 vs 15.3% in September 2015) was the most common serotype confirmed this month. Uncommon Salmonella serotypes confirmed this month included Salmonella Muenster (7 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1994) and Salmonella Napoli (2 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 2015).
