Human Salmonella Isolates, 2016 No. 10, October

The number of isolates (n=93) confirmed this month showed a decrease in comparison to the number of isolates confirmed in October 2015 (n=101). Salmonella Bovismorbificans (9.7% in October 2016 vs 1% in October 2015) was the most common serotype confirmed this month. Uncommon Salmonella serotype confirmed this month was S. Chailey (5 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1992). Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 41 was confirmed for the first time in New Zealand this month; the case had recently travelled to Mexico.
