Human Salmonella isolates, 2017 No.2, February

The number of isolates (n=113) confirmed this month showed a decrease in comparison to the number of isolates confirmed in February 2016 (n=132). Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 101 and Saintpaul (6.1% and 4.5% in February 2016 vs 7.1% in February 2016) were the most common serotypes confirmed this month. Uncommon serotypes confirmed this month included S. Ball (4 human cases since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1988), Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 23 (8 human cases since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1994) and S. Indiana (11 human cases since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1990).
