Human Salmonella isolates, 2017 No.3, March

The number of isolates (n=138) confirmed this month showed an increase in comparison to the number of isolates confirmed in March 2016 (n=119). Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 11 (12.3% in March 2017 vs 8.4% in March 2016) was the most common serotype confirmed this month. Uncommon serotype confirmed this month was S. Typhimurium phage type 99 (3 human cases since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 2011. Salmonella Agbeni was confirmed for the first time in New Zealand this month; the case had recently travelled to Denmark.
