Human Salmonella isolates, 2018 No.8, August

The number of isolates (n=144) confirmed this month showed an increase in comparison to the number of isolates confirmed in August 2017 (n=115). Salmonella Bovismorbificans (6.9% in August 2018 vs 4.3% in August 2017) was the most common serotype confirmed this month. Uncommon Salmonella serotype confirmed this month is S. Abony (4 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1998), S. Elisabethville (4 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1993), S. Muenster (10 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1994), S. Othmarschen (4 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 2001), S. Enteritidis phage type 1e (4 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 2013), and S. Enteritidis phage type 43 (2 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 2017. Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 49 was confirmed for the first time in New Zealand this month.
