Human Salmonella isolates, 2018 No.9, September

The number of isolates (n=85) confirmed this month showed a decrease in comparison to the number of isolates confirmed in September 2017 (n=120). Salmonella Bovismorbificans (9.4% in September 2018 vs 9.2% in September 2017). Uncommon Salmonella serotype confirmed this month was Salmonella Brunei (4 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 1994) and Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 34 (6 human isolates since it was first confirmed in New Zealand in 2004). Salmonella Enteritidis phage type 1c (recent travel to Vietnam) was confirmed for the first time in New Zealand this month.
