Non-Human Salmonella Isolates, 2008 Jul-Sep

Summary
The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 596 non-human salmonella isolates in the third quarter of 2008 compared with 384 in the same period of 2007. During this quarter S. Typhimurium infections in bovines increased from 91 in 2007 to 291 in 2008.
The following isolates were confirmed for the first time in New Zealand; S. Banana and S. Yoruba both from poultry feed. S. Typhimurium phage types U208 and U310 both from bovine.
