Summary

The Enteric
Reference Laboratory confirmed 217 non-human salmonella isolates in the first
quarter of 2009 compared with 220 in the same period of 2008.
There was a
decrease in poultry isolates of S. Typhimurium
phage type 101 from 30 isolates in the first quarter of 2008 compared with 1
isolate in 2009.
The 54 reptile
isolates were predominantly from the screening of skinks and geckos by the
Department of Conservation and Massey
University before relocation
to off shore islands.
