Summary
The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 148 non-human Salmonella isolates in the second quarter of 2009 compared with 319 in the same period of 2008. There was a decrease in bovine isolates from 51 (2008) down to 26 (2009). There was also a decrease in total number of poultry isolates in the second quarter from 116 in 2008 compared with 48 in 2009. The first isolate of Salmonella Rideau (antigenic formula 1,3,19 : f,g : -) was confirmed in New Zealand. The Salmonella Rideau was isolated from poultry feed.
