Non-Human Salmonella Isolates, 2011 Jan-Mar

Summary

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 212 non-human Salmonella isolates in the first quarter of 2011 compared with 221 in the same period of 2010.

It was initially reported in April 2011 that one isolate of S.Typhimurium phage type 110B had been isolated from a canary. Further testing confirmed this isolate as S. Typhimurium phage type RDNC-May 06.

There was an increase in the number of S. Brandenburg isolated from environmental sources with 62 confirmed in the first quarter of 2011 compared with 4 in the same period of 2010.

There was a general increase in the number of poultry isolates with 41 confirmed in the first quarter of 2011 compared with 18 in the same period of 2010.
