Summary

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 343 non-human isolates in the October – December quarter in 2011 compared with 270 in the last quarter of 2010.
During this quarter bovine isolates increased from 186 in 2010 to 260 in 2011. This is due to a Salmonella outbreak in dairy herds in the Taranaki, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Manawatu regions (http://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/farming/6177026/Region-assesses-outbreak-risk).
