Summary

The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 59 non-human Salmonella isolates in December 2012.
During the last quarter i.e. October to December 2012, 195 Salmonella isolates were confirmed in comparison to 343 in 2011.
There was an increase in the number of S. Montevideo isolates (0 in 2011 vs. 11 in 2012) due to an outbreak in the North Island linked to the consumption of contaminated tahini.
