Summary
The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 40 non-human Salmonella isolates in January 2014 compared with 69 in January 2013. There was a decrease in reptile isolates (18.8% in 2013 vs. 7.5% in 2014) and food isolates (18.8% in2013 vs. 2.5% in 2014). The increase number of food isolates in January 2013 was linked to an outbreak involving the consumption of contaminated tahini. There was a decrease in the number of S. Enteritidis confirmed this month from 10 in January 2013 (all from environmental source) to 0 in January 2014. There was an increase in the number of S. Hindmarsh isolates confirmed this month from 5 in January 2013 to 10 in January 2014; all from ovine origin. Note: Click on the document links below to open. These documents are in PDF format.
