Non-Human Salmonella Isolates, 2014 No. 5, May

Summary
The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 50 non-human Salmonella isolates in May 2014 compared with 79 May 2013.
There was a decrease in the number of bovine isolates (24 in 2013 vs. 13 in 2014) and environmental isolates (15 in 2013 vs. 0 in 2014).
Since the 1 April 2014, 30 S. Hindmarsh ovine isolates (20 from the South Island) have been confirmed. This compares with 19 for the same period last year. A seasonal increase in S. Hindmarsh in sheep has previously been reported https://surv.esr.cri.nz/enteric_reference/nonhuman_salmonella.php?we_objectID=3647. No increase in human cases has been observed to date.
