Non-Human Salmonella Isolates, 2003 Apr-Jun

Summary
There were 288 isolates confirmed this quarter compared with 329 for the same period in 2002. There has been a marked decrease in the number of isolates of S. Typhimurium DT 160 (7) compared with 42 in 2002.
An increase in isolations of S. Typhimurium DT 156 is noted. Environmental isolates include water from a private roof run-off.
An increase is also noted in isolations of S. Infantis (40) in poultry and unspecified product (17 in 2002). S. Typhimurium DT 1 isolations from poultry industry sources have halved since the first quarter.
Two isolations of S. Montevideo from unspecified product were confirmed during this period.
