Non-Human Salmonella Isolates, 2004 Apr-Jun

Tuesday 21st March 2023

Summary

A higher number of ovine isolates of S. Hindmarsh is noted.

The 3 isolates of S. Enteritidis 4b are from oysters collected south of Invercargill. This phage type has previously been isolated from sea lion pups in the southern oceans of New Zealand. It is thought that bilge water from ships is the likely source of this and other uncommon sero/phage types found in animals and shellfish from these areas.
