Non-Human Salmonella Isolates, 2022 No. 03, March
The Enteric Reference Laboratory confirmed 93 non-human Salmonella isolates in March 2022 compared with 41 March 2021. There was an increase in the number of Poultry isolates (9 in 2021 versus 72 in 2022). Extra testing associated with the MPI Emergency Control Scheme – Managing Salmonella Enteritidis in Commercial Chicken Flocks that came into effect 6th October 2021 has resulted in an increase in poultry isolate referrals. In accordance with the Emergency Control Scheme for managing Salmonella Enteritidis in commercial chicken flocks, a number of isolates were received and stored without further typing. While they were received by ESR in March 2022 they were not all collected within this time frame, including 33 Salmonella Enteritidis isolates collected in 2021.
