Seven of the cases aged under 5 years were fully vaccinated for their age with PCV10, four were partially vaccinated and two were eligible for vaccination but were unvaccinated. Ethnicity was known for 10 of the cases aged under 5 years and six (60%) were Māori or Pacific peoples. There were four deaths from invasive pneumococcal disease: one in a fully vaccinated child aged under 5 years with serotype 19A and three in adults aged over 60 years (two were serotype 19A).

Risk factor information was available for seven confirmed cases: six reported exposure to animals (five due to the nature of their occupation as farmers, a farrier and a meat worker) and one reported contact with soil. Eight confirmed cases were hospitalised. The serovar was identified for one case and was Leptospira Ballum. Six cases were confirmed by PCR.
