Tuberculosis Reports

Tuesday 21st March 2023

The Annual Tuberculosis Report summarises the descriptive epidemiology of tuberculosis (TB) notifications (disease and latent infections) in New Zealand.

Each report focuses on a particular year but also examines five-year trends and includes TB drug susceptibility data and TB molecular typing data.

Universal molecular typing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates was introduced in July 2002, conducted by LabPlus in Auckland under contract to the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited (ESR), with funding by the Ministry of Health.

The 2008 TB Molecular Typing Report summarises the descriptive epidemiology of M. tuberculosis clusters identified through molecular typing from 2003 to 2007.

The primary audience for these reports is New Zealand TB practitioners including Medical Officers of Health, and Respiratory and Infectious Disease Physicians.
