Summary

Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) has been a notifiable disease in New Zealand since October 2008. In 2013, 479 cases of IPD were notified, a rate of 10.7 cases per 100,000. This report presents information on cases of IPD that were notified in 2013, as well as trend data for recent years. Information relating to disease distribution in the population, risk factors, immunisation status, serotype distribution and antimicrobial susceptibility of S pneumonia isolates is provided.
