Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between April to June 2006, SHCs reported a total of 1,142 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 228 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 195 cases of genital herpes, 913 cases of genital warts, 21 cases of syphilis and 187 cases of NSU in males.
 
Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between April to June 2006, FPCs reported a total of 763 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 46 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 33 cases of genital herpes, 148 cases of genital warts, 1 case of syphilis, and 5 cases of NSU in males.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between April to June 2006, SYHCs reported a total of 177 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 13 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 12 cases of genital herpes, 42 cases of genital warts, and 1 case of NSU in males. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
