STI Clinic Surveillance: Quarterly Report Oct-Dec 2006

Thursday 20th June 2019

Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between October to December 2006, SHCs reported a total of 946 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 168 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 144 cases of genital herpes, 679 cases of genital warts, 19 cases of syphilis and 110 cases of NSU in males.
NB: During this quarter the Auckland SHC has experienced difficulties in providing complete case data to ESR therefore caution is required when comparing and interpreting SHC case data and rates.

Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between October to December 2006, FPCs reported a total of 814 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 56 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 37 cases of genital herpes, 163 cases of genital warts and one case of syphilis. There were no cases of NSU in males reported in this quarter.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between October to December 2006, SYHCs reported a total of 177 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 10 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 19 cases of genital herpes, 54 cases of genital warts and 3 case of NSU in males. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
