Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between April to June 2007, SHCs reported a total of 1 043 cases of chlamydia, 227 cases of gonorrhoea, 184 cases of genital herpes, 1 003 cases of genital warts, 20 cases of syphilis and 210 cases of NSU in males. 

Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between April to June 2007, FPCs reported a total of 875 cases of chlamydia, 43 cases of gonorrhoea, 45 cases of genital herpes, 148 cases of genital warts, 2 cases of syphilis and 7 cases of NSU in males.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between April to June 2007, SYHCs reported a total of 265 cases of chlamydia, 17 cases of gonorrhoea, 25 cases of genital herpes, 56 cases of genital warts and 5 cases of NSU in males. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
