Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between January to March 2008, SHCs reported a total of 1 109 cases of chlamydia, 196 cases of gonorrhoea, 165 cases of genital herpes, 809 cases of genital warts, 24 cases of syphilis and 105 cases of NSU in males.

Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between January to March 2008, FPCs reported a total of 831 cases of chlamydia, 49 cases of gonorrhoea, 31 cases of genital herpes, 155 cases of genital warts and 4 cases of NSU in males. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between January to March 2008, SYHCs reported a total of 236 cases of chlamydia, 18 cases of gonorrhoea, 15 cases of genital herpes, 37 cases of genital warts and one case of NSU in males. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
