Summary

Sexual Health Clinic Data
Between October and December 2003, sexual health clinics reported a total of 1032 cases (confirmed or probable) of chlamydia, 162 cases (confirmed or probable) of gonorrhoea, 184 cases of genital herpes, 888 cases of genital warts, 6 cases of syphilis, and 288 cases of NSU in males.

Family Planning Clinic Data
During the current quarter, family planning clinics reported a total of 516 cases of chlamydia, 43 cases of gonorrhoea, 42 cases of genital herpes and 117 cases of genital warts. No cases of syphilis and NSU in males were reported.

Student & Youth Clinic Data
During the current quarter, student and youth clinics reported a total of 64 cases of chlamydia 6 cases of gonorrhoea, 3 cases of genital herpes, 22 cases of genital warts, and 7 cases of NSU in males. No cases of syphilis were reported.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
