Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between April to June 2009, SHCs reported a total of 1 190 cases of chlamydia, 224 cases of gonorrhoea, 237 cases of genital herpes, 874 cases of genital warts, 30 cases of syphilis and 165 cases of NSU in males were reported.

Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between April to June 2009, FPCs reported a total of 898 cases of chlamydia, 47 cases of gonorrhoea, 53 cases of genital herpes, 129 cases of genital warts and one case of NSU in males were reported. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between April to June 2009, SYHCs reported a total of 270 cases of chlamydia, 25 cases of gonorrhoea, 29 cases of genital herpes, 67 cases of genital warts, six cases of NSU in males were reported and one case of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
