Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between July to September 2009, SHCs reported a total of 1 072 cases of chlamydia, 209 cases of gonorrhoea, 218 cases of genital herpes, 771 cases of genital warts, 53 cases of syphilis and 209 cases of NSU in males were reported.
 
Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between July to September 2009, FPCs reported a total of 890 cases of chlamydia, 54 cases of gonorrhoea, 50 cases of genital herpes, 139 cases of genital warts and two cases of NSU in males were reported. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between July to September 2009, SYHCs reported a total of 249 cases of chlamydia, seven cases of gonorrhoea, 43 cases of genital herpes, 68 cases of genital warts, five cases of NSU in males. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
