Summary

Sexual Health Clinic Data
Between January and March 2004, SHCs reported 18 291 visits. A total of 937 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 178 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 142 cases of genital herpes, 894 cases of genital warts, 10 cases of syphilis and 250 cases of NSU in males were reported.

Family Planning Clinic Data
During the current quarter, FPCs reported 45 368 visits. A total of 428 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 42 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 36 cases of genital herpes, 115 cases of genital warts and 2 cases of NSU in males were reported. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Student & Youth Clinic Data
During the current quarter, SYHCs reported 28 375 visits. A total of 92 confirmed cases of chlamydia, two confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, three cases of genital herpes and 19 cases of genital warts. There were no cases of NSU in males or syphilis reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
