Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between January and March 2005, SHCs reported 20 069 visits. A total of 1010 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 173 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 173 cases of genital herpes, 922 cases of genital warts, 3 cases of syphilis and 186 cases of NSU in males were reported.
 
Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between January and March 2005, A total of 462 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 44 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 39 cases of genital herpes, 123 cases of genital warts, 1 case of syphilis and 4 cases of NSU in males were reported.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between January and March 2005, SYHCs reported 28 431 visits. A total of 117 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 3 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 10 cases of genital herpes, 23 cases of genital warts and 5 cases of NSU in males were reported. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.


Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
