Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between April and June 2005, SHCs reported a total of 1008 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 166 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 189 cases of genital herpes, 911 cases of genital warts, 18 cases of syphilis and 179 cases of NSU in males. 

Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between April and June 2005, FPCs reported a total of 516 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 21 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 50 cases of genital herpes, 111 cases of genital warts and 2 cases of NSU in males. No cases of syphilis were reported.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between April and June 2005, SYHCs reported a total of 154 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 7 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 9 cases of genital herpes and 29 cases of genital warts. No cases of syphilis of NSU in males were reported.


Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
