Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between July and September 2005, SHCs reported a total of 940 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 122 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 153 cases of genital herpes, 764 cases of genital warts, 10 cases of syphilis and 159 cases of NSU in males were reported. 

Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between July and September 2005, FPCs reported a total of 708 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 40 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 46 cases of genital herpes, 159 cases of genital warts, 1 case of syphilis and 4 cases of NSU in males were reported.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between July and September 2005, SYHCs reported a total of 160 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 7 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 13 cases of genital herpes and 29 cases of genital warts and 1 case of NSU in males were reported. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
