Summary

Sexual Health Clinics (SHCs)
Between October to December 2005, SHCs reported a total of 1125 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 167 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 203 cases of genital herpes, 933 cases of genital warts, 14 cases of syphilis and 268 cases of NSU in males were reported. 

Family Planning Clinics (FPCs)
Between October to December 2005, FPCs reported a total of 620 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 46 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 28 cases of genital herpes, 140 cases of genital warts and 3 cases of NSU in males were reported. There were no cases of syphilis reported in this quarter.

Student & Youth Health Clinics (SYHCs)
Between October to December 2005, SYHCs reported a total of 132 confirmed cases of chlamydia, 5 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea, 2 cases of genital herpes and 26 cases of genital warts were reported. There were no cases of syphilis or NSU in males reported in this quarter.

Cautionary note:
The figures presented here may underestimate true infection rates because not all clinics and laboratories participate and STIs diagnosed by a range of other health care providers, such as GPs, are not included in this report. It is also important to note the denominator used in calculating disease rates. Rates based on clinic data use the total number of clinic visits, whether for STIs or other conditions, as the denominator.
